After School Program
Miller Junior High School's 21st Century After-School Program
Project S.A.I.L. through Century 21 and the YMCA of Grays Harbor/Harbor Afterschool are excited to announce the start of this year's After-school Program.
The program runs from 2:30 – 5:00 pm Monday through Thursday, on regular school days. It also has an optional morning time from 7:25 – 7:50 am. to receive help with homework.
Students will receive a snack directly after school, place their cell phones in their pouch, and go to an Academic Hour. This is supervised by a grade level teacher, para-educator, and YMCA mentors. After homework is done, students will read a book, or do other quiet academic work.
The second hour of the program will include STEAM/Enrichment Activities. This is an opportunity for students to participate in extra-curricular activities such as health and fitness games, cooking, art projects, robotics, science experiments and much more.
Attendance for the program is taken daily. If your student will not be attending for the day, please phone the office or send in a note letting us know. If a student does not show up, a phone call will be made home.
The goal of the program is to help ensure student success. Students are strongly encouraged to attend daily and remain in attendance for the duration of the program. Students who participate in other extra-curricular activities, such as afterschool sports, are encouraged to continue to attend the program when possible and accommodations can be made for those students when necessary.
Occasionally, the extended school day can be difficult for a student. If this occurs, you and your student will receive notifications about their behavior. If problems continue and become a distraction to other students, your student may be exited from the program.
Transportation home from the program is available via school bus, beginning in early October. Parents will need to fill out an additional request form if their student needs to ride the bus home. Only Aberdeen addresses are allowed to be included in the bus route.
Cell phone use is not allowed between 2:45pm and 4:45 pm. It is only allowed for 15 minutes right after school, and 15 minutes at the end of the program.
This program is an exciting opportunity for students with many rewards. A few fun incentives for participation include, a free annual membership to the YMCA of Grays Harbor for each student who attends 30 days or more, family fun nights, and field trip opportunities.
Our staff look forward to working with your students!
