ABERDEEN HIGH SCHOOL BOY’S GOLF
SECTION A: Qualifying for the Golf Team
General:
In order to qualify for the Aberdeen High School (AHS) Golf Team a
player must have all the necessary paper work turned in to the coach or
the high school office including verification of insurance, emergency
contact/treatment authorization card, sport’s physical form and a
student athlete contract. All of these forms must be turned in prior to
the first practice or the student will not be allowed to count his
attendance as valid participation.
In order to qualify for the AHS Team a golfer must be among the lowest
golfers in average score after 72 holes of tournament style qualifying
play. The qualifying holes will be played at Gray’s Harbor
Country Club (GHCC) and Highland Golf Course. Exceptions to qualifying
may be made if a golfer shows outstanding ability or aptitude. A player
must compete in all four qualifying rounds in order to make the team.
Exceptions may be made for extenuating circumstances.
Returning Varsity Players:
Returning DISTRICT QUALIFYING Varsity Golfers will participate in
qualifying but are exempt from cut unless extenuating circumstances
exist which merit a playoff for a position on the current team.
Match Qualifying:
Match qualifying will consist of the low six overall tournament
averages making up the Varsity Team with the next six lowest averages
making up the remainder of the Junior Varsity Team for each tournament.
Qualifying rounds will precede each tournament when possible to allow
individuals a chance to participate in matches. Players who do not
qualify for tournaments are required to attend home matches but are not
allowed to travel with the team on away matches.
SECTION B: DRESS CODE
General:
Players will be expected to wear pants or approved shorts, collared
shirts, and approved shoes at all times. No advertisement clothing
beyond what is permissible by USGA rules and no unapproved head wear
during qualifying, practice, match play, tournament play and in
transportation to and from all events sponsored by the Aberdeen
Interscholastic Program and the WIAA. Any golfer that does not adhere
to the dress code will be asked not attend that practice or match until
the situation has been corrected.
Shirts:
All shirts worn on the golf course for tournament or practice play must
have an appropriate collar, sleeves and must be worn as they were
intended. There will be no tee-shirts or tank tops, advertisement
predominant shirts, no ripped, ragged or vulgar shirts of any kind.
Pants:
All pants must be worn appropriately at all times. No faded blue jeans
or cotton sweat pants are allowed during practice or tournament play.
No ripped or ragged pants are allowed on the golf course. Shorts may be
worn but they must be of walking short or near knee length. No denim or
print shorts are allowable.
Head Wear:
All head wear must be approved before it can be allowed on the golf
course for practice or tournament play. Hats such as golf
advertisement, major brands related to the sport of golf and most sun
billed baseball-type hats, rain, or golf related are permissible if
worn as intended.
Additional Clothing:
Any additional clothing, not including rain gear provided by the coach,
must conform to specifications adherent to the other articles of
clothing worn on and around the golf course (e.g., sweatshirts,
sweaters, coats).
Plan Ahead:
Please plan ahead if a change of clothes is required before practicing
or participating in a tournament. Upon repeat violations the player may
be asked not to participate in the practice or qualifying round.
Players who believe the dress code may be difficult for financial
reasons should see the coach and arrangements will be made.
SECTION C: GEAR
Clubs:
All players must have their own set of clubs during practice and
tournament play. All clubs must conform to USGA and WIAA
specifications. Players must not exceed the allowable number of clubs
per bag. Players may transport more than the allowable number of clubs
provided the proper number or less is in the bag when play begins.
Shoes:
Players are not required to wear Golf Spikes. Shoes other than USGA
approved spikes must be approved prior to practice or tournament play.
No ripped, ragged or inappropriate shoes will be permitted on the golf
course.
Balls:
All balls used during practice and tournament play must conform to USGA
and WIAA specifications. Players using illegal balls will be
disqualified from the event and could risk suspension from the AHS Golf
Team.
SECTION D: CONDUCT
General:
Conduct on and off the Golf Course during, prior to and after practice
and tournament play shall be governed by the USGA, WIAA and AHS
standards set forth in the Athletic Contract as well as accepted
standards of the AHS Golf Team.
Language:
No loud, vulgar, inappropriate or offensive language will be permitted
on or in transit to or from the course during practice or tournament
play.
Behavior:
No unsupportive or offensive gestures toward teammates, other teams,
coaches or support personnel will be permitted on or in transit to or
from the course during practice or tournament play.
Etiquette and Rules:
All league play and practice play shall be governed by the USGA and
accepted standards of etiquette for the sport of Golf. Current USGA
rule books will be provided to all members of the team. A rules test
may be given before tournament play begins. Satisfactory completion of
the rules test is required before players qualify for Tournament play.
Sportsmanship:
Each player who participates on the golf team will be expected to
uphold the highest standard of sportsmanship at all times. Those
players who can not meet that standard will not be allowed to
participate on the golf team.
Transportation:
It is an automatic one match suspension for any driving infraction that
occurs to or from any golf team sponsored event. Golf team members will
not make any unnecessary noise with their vehicles that may disrupt
others at the golf course.
SECTION E: RULE INFRACTIONS
General:
All rules and codes of conduct and dress will be adhered to at all times.
Team members who choose to violate team rules are subject to the
penalties listed below including suspension from team qualification and
tournament play and any other action taken by other affected parties
(i.e., Aberdeen High School, Grays Harbor Country Club, Highland Golf
Course, Ocean Shores Golf Course, etc.).
1st Violation A verbal warning to the player
2nd Violation Written warning to player, parents, and AHS will be notified
3rd Violation Player will face restrictions and/or suspension from team
All rules are subject to conditions and viability. A team members who
violates a rule will be given the opportunity to rectify the violation
with the affected party. Although team members who choose to openly
defy and disregard the accepted rules, risk damaging the integrity of
the AHS Golf program and will be asked to no longer participate with
the team.
SECTION F: SERVICE EXPECTATION
General:
The Aberdeen High School Golf Team plays for a minimal fee at Grays
Harbor Country Club. As part of our commitment to keeping Grays Harbor
Country Club as our home course, we give a number of hours each season
to assisting with general maintenance on the golf course. This
commitment represents our understanding that public service is a strong
part of every community. Students who are involved with public service
and volunteerism demonstrate a higher awareness and deeper
understanding of our world and our part as citizens.
Player Commitment:
Each player who makes the team will committ to completing a predetermined number of service hours at the golf course.
